Welcome to the Carnival Project, where we specialize in providing and delivering projects and workshops to various schools and music hubs located throughout London. Our flagship project is Carnival Rhythms, or as we like to call it, “The Internal Power of Rhythm”. This ten session, one-hour workshop consists of a brief historical and cultural background of carnival music with plenty of hands-on energetic participation. Our workshops cover a variety of styles such as Samba Batucada, Samba Reggae, Conga de Comparsa, Candombe, Funky beats, and much more. We limit the number of participants to a maximum of seventy and we provide every instrument and earplug required to make your experience enjoyable.
All of our projects and workshops can be modified to suit your requirements, ranging from a one-off taster session to an all-year progression-based development project. Our results speak for themselves. We have had schools perform at some of the most iconic venues in London, including the Royal Festival Hall, Troxy, Hackney Empire, and Birmingham NEC, after only nine hours of learning. Several of the children we have taught have represented the Hackney Bateria in numerous events, including Gateway 2 Music at Sadler’s Wells for Sir Jack Petcheys’ birthday. Similarly, other groups have represented the Carnival Project Bateria at the Greenwich Festival 2016 and City of London Festival Procession 2011, 2013, and 2015. The bateria groups have varied in size from 30 to 200 participants.
