Educational drumming projects-The Carnival Project

   EDUCATIONAL SECTION
 

All projects/workshops includes Bateria(Brazilian drums) instruments for between 25-80 participants and is adaptable to fit your requirements.Overall costings will depend upon a number of participants/hours requested and travel expenses. Projects are effective and efficient for developing participants in a group format.We could also provide small group Latin or African percussion sessions.

 

Workshop:'Carnival Taster '

Duration:1hr-1 day
 

Content: Ethos on development and movement to acquire swing etc. Body rhythms, syncopation, basic carnival rhythms on instruments
A brief introduction to the instruments and techniques.A brief history of Carnival music (Latin American)

Key skills coverage: Develop and enhance -motor coordination,processing speed,cognitive and executive functions ,social cohesion, musical awareness, syncopation, concentration, coordination, call and response, tempo regulation,beat perception and anticipation,group cohesion,signal decoding,multi-tasking and maths.

 

 


 

 


Workshop:'Bitesize'

Duration:2-8 hrs 

Content: Introduction to Carnival music brief history South American/ Caribbean music.Introduction to the Bateria instruments and techniques of playing them.
Using the voice as instruments of the Agogo (bell) /Tamborim/ and Surdo then transfer information to the instruments. Music and movement. Section playing / listening / moving and playing techniques.Styles will be either Batucada(samba) Samba Reggae(Brazil),Conga de Comparsa (Cuba),Candombe (Uruguay)
Key skills coverage : .Develop and enhancing musical competence, beat perception and anticipation ,spatial reasoning, tempo regulation,polyrhythms,motor control,syncopation, team building, differentiation, concentration and musical awareness. Call and response, signal decoding and musical awareness.

 

 

'Carnival Rhythms'

 

Duration:10hrs

 

Content: Cd and Video examples.We use the voice as a instrument for the bell,tamborim or snare drum and transfer the information onto the instrument.There is also stamina building,syncopation,coordination musical awareness and enrichment,ensemble playing,technique development and the importance and role of each instrument and section.Introduction and importance of the conductor and his/her role and signals.Introduction to calls,response and breaks etc.

'Workshop: 'Developing  intermediate- advance techniques and performance mode

Duration:1 year or more


Content: Development of participants musical awareness, tempo regulation,time signature.sectional play,syncopation, rhythm, concentration, coordination and stamina building.Different styles and possible links, arrangements and possible performances and festivals.
In depth techniques of each ensemble instruments (3 surdo/repique section) Bateria
A detailed insight of South American and Caribbean carnival styles.
